Hey Hey
Its been a long time since I last blogged. Life has been a tad hectic this week – mixed in with not feeling 100% = me spending most of my free time trying to de-stress and hit the hay earlier than usual. That being said – I have a bit of spare time coming up this weekend (and I’m hoping I can leave work early today since I started at 6:30 this morning due to an event). I’m planning to get some serious work done on the bloggie – I feel like I’ve been neglecting it.

I also am seriously, and I mean, seriously considering making the move from a wordpress.com blog to a wordpress.org blog – aka being hosted through a different provider. I’ve been reading up on it alot lately and I’m a bit overwhelmed honestly – seems like there is alot to get organized. I would love some tips from people who have made the move – how did you do it? Was it worth it? I keep reading about all these wonderful themes and plugins and the fact that you can do whatever you want with the site is kind of enticing to me. What do you think,  good decision or bad decision? This switch would definitely require a bigger effort towards this blog – afterall you are paying for hosting now. Also, any tips on good/affordable hosting?

So in thinking about this change – I am also considering a name change for the bloggie. I know I’ve done this a few times now – and I’m so sorry about that – I just can’t seem to get it right. I feel like Learning to Live Lean is too long, and I’m not in love with it anymore, so I’ve been trying to brainstorm some new ideas. How did you come up with your blog name? What makes you love it? Ha – I guess I’m just full of questions today – but seriously I would love some input from some more experienced bloggers!

Okay – moving on – here are some highlights of this week!

  • Monday: Work = Stress, but met a coworker for Yoga afterwards for 1.5 hours and it was liberating. Seriously, I haven’t done yoga since I moved here and its so relaxing. Love it.
  • Tuesday: Woke up to yet another Calgary blizzard – this time in May. GRR. Spring is usually my favorite season and mother nature is ruining it 😦 *pout*. Also, it didn’t help that I got a nasty migraine in the afternoon (likely due to all this crazy weather). The one saving grace: It was makeover week on Biggest Loser, and Glee was awesome, as always.
  • Wednesday: Still felt crummy at work – but talked myself into making a fabulous Shrimp Scampi for dinner. O…M…G. Soooooo Goood! I need to make this regularly. I added in chopped tomatoes, lemon juice/zest and was probably a little more liberal with the white wine than necessary 😛 but it was so worth it – and definitely justified by this point in the week.
  • Thursday: First semi-relaxing day all week. Got alot checked off the ol’ to-do list, and got to run a few errands with a coworker to prep for the event this morning that I mentioned earlier. I love work field trips – sometimes its just so nice to get out of the office.
  • Today: As I mentioned, I was up bright and early to make it to a breakfast event. Thankfully, the boy got up too so he could drop me off downtown – love him, such a sweetheart. Now I’m trying to think of what to make for dinner. We picked up 4 pork tenderloins last weekend on sale – I’m thinking that sounds pretty delish at the moment.

Other than blog updates, I have my FIRST ever 5K race this weekend. I’m running the Calgary Mother’s Day 5K/10K race. Ryan work kindly offered to let me join their team – so the boy and I will be running this race together. I’m not planning on running for time – I’m just going to try and enjoy the experience. Ryan runs at a tad slower pace then me so I don’t get nearly as tired when I run with him (*yay*) – I think he’d be a fabulous partner for longer runs – he just doesn’t know it yet.

Hello Bloggies,

Sorry for the delay in posting, this week at work has been pretty busy.

However,  I found sometime early Thursday morning to do a little tour of my new office.

I stayed a bit late at work on Thursday because we were working on a large event for Friday, and it involved a bit of setup …. And blowing up balloons with a helium tank. Now I can say that’s something I’ve done. It was pretty fun actually. Thursday night I spent relaxing and catching up with Grey’s/CSI and my PVR episodes for the week. Friday morning was spent working at the event that I mentioned before – it was pretty entertaining and wasn’t actually that much work for me. Pretty good way to spend a morning.

Friday afternoon, my boss told me I could leave early if I wanted too (since I worked late the day before) – which was a nice surprise. I stuck around until about 4, fiddling with some facebook/twitter stuff for work and then decided to jump at the chance to get an early start to the weekend.

On Saturday, Ryan and I got up with plans to hit the gym early. Ryan had told me earlier in the week about a 5K some people he works with were running in for Mother’s Day, and asked if I’d be interested. Well obvi, I was! BUT…then I decided I should try and talk him into running it with me. I told him he has lots of time to work up to running that distance, and if it gets too hard he can always stop and walk for a bit. So to make me happy (or to make me quit bugging him… not sure which) he decided to try out the treadmill with me on Saturday. He ran at a consistent pace for 15 minutes before getting tired and I was soooo proud of him. He even said it “didn’t suck as much as he thought it would”. I think I may have a new running buddy in the future – which is so exciting.

Last night we decided to choose another restaurant from Dine Out Calgary, and tried Ric’s Grill, a steakhouse very close to our place. It was delicious, I had the bruschetta, filet mingion and crème brulee. So delightful – I think we’ll definitely be trying that place again for a full-priced meal.

When we got back from dinner last night I noticed one of my friends had texted me asking if I wanted to join her for a little gym sesh today. I was definitely down for trying out the gym in her condo, and I had never been to her place before and figured it would a nice way to start my day. Her place is gorgeous, with a pool and a big gym – I was very impressed. She said she needs to start running more as well – so I may have gained two running buddies out of this weekend – not too shabby.

This afternoon, the boy and I headed out to run some errands (ie. groceries) and also stopped in to see Alice in Wonderland. Ryan loves Tim Burton movies, I mainly just think he is creepy – but I like the story – so we compromised. I didn’t looove the movie, but I didn’t hate it either… it was just kinda “meh”. Ryan agreed that he had seen better from Tim Burton. I think the Nightmare Before Christmas will always be his favorite.

A Mile a Minute

Okay, thats just a figure of speech – I can’t move a mile a minute – I WISH.

Apologies for not blogging since Tuesday, I seem to have a pattern with getting overly busy at the tail-end of the week. I need to work that out a little better I guess.

Its another beautiful sunny day in Calgary. I seriously cannot get over the amount of sun that we get out here. I was thinking that it hasn’t rained once since I moved out here in December. I’m ridiculously in love with it.

The fact that its sunny, makes the cold days that much more tolerable.

Well, the last half of my week was spent mostly going to interviews and finishing up some volunteer projects for a Chinese New Year event that I was helping a good friend out with last night. The interviews went pretty well I think, there were 2 in marketing/communications (which is what I did my degree in) and another position in fundraising/development (which is an area that I worked in for most of last year).

The only problem with all the interviews is that they are completely throwing off my workout routine. They have all been in the morning, and I really really prefer to get my workout’s done in the morning. So, they have been a problem as I’m  generally too exhausted to haul my tooshie to the gym by the afternoon. That being said, I didn’t completely blow it this week. I did I 20 minute YogaDowload podcast on Wednesday afternoon; a 3.1 mile run on Friday, and 30 minutes on the elliptical + 10 minutes of hills on the treadmill, yesterday. I could’ve completely given up on it after my weak Wednesday/Thursday.

Yesterday night’s, Chinese New Year event that I helped out with ran really smoothly, so I’m really happy about that. I had never been to a Chinese New Year’s celebration before, and found it really entertaining – I loved the Lion Dance, in particular – so fun to watch.
